German M1898 Bayonet with Sawback, WWI
Forged steel, wooden grip plates, steel scabbard. An original German bayonet with a sawback from the First World War, designed for the Gewehr 98 rifle. The strong, single-edged blade features a sharp, double-row sawback. The hilt, with its steel crossguard and pommel, is fitted with the original wooden grip plates. It comes with its matching steel scabbard, age-appropriate worn condition, scabbard heavily reworked with a hole at the chape, L. 38 cm, blade length 25 cm.
The M1898 bayonet with a sawback was a special version primarily issued to pioneers and non-commissioned officers during World War I. The sawback served as a tool.
