Small Estate of General Gruson – Commander of Infantry Regiment 165, Quedlinburg
A small personal estate of General Gruson, the last commanding officer of the 5th Hanoverian Infantry Regiment No. 165, stationed in Quedlinburg. The ensemble consists of two main parts: 1) Framed Display Case: Containing a collection of photographs and reproduced newspaper articles illustrating the general’s life, five original handwritten letters, his interim ribbon bar with seven decorations, and the rare cuff title with the traditional inscription “Waterloo–165–Lüttich.” 2) Personal Regimental History: The book “5. Hannoversches Infanterie-Regiment Nr. 165 im Weltkriege” bearing General Gruson’s handwritten dedication to the city of Quedlinburg. Inserted inside is an original photograph showing him as a major, signed in his own hand. Good age-appropriate condition overall.
This estate represents a unique historical document embodying the legacy of Infantry Regiment 165 and its close ties to the garrison town of Quedlinburg. General Gruson played a key role in the regiment’s late history, and his personally inscribed copy of the regimental chronicle—together with his decorations and correspondence—makes this collection a museum-worthy artifact of high regional and military-historical significance.
