Award Documents Gorath, Iron Cross 1st Cl. & Wound Badge, signed Risse (Knight's cross bearer)
Paper, printed and filled out by hand. A historically significant lot of two award documents for Stabsgefreiter Gorath, Grenadier Regiment 377, from the Second World War. 1) Award Document for the Iron Cross 1st Class. Issued on October 1, 1944. The document bears the rare, original ink signature of Generalleutnant and divisional commander Walter Risse. 2) Award Document for the Wound Badge in Black. Issued for a first wound. Both documents are centrally folded, hole-punched, and show minor edge tears appropriate for their age, each 20 x 14 cm (HxW).
Walter Risse (1892-1965) was a highly decorated German officer, ultimately Generalleutnant in World War II and a recipient of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves. His original signature as commander of the 225th Infantry Division on the IC I document makes this a special historical artifact for collectors.
