Five Meissen Marcolini plates
porcelain, 1774-1815, sword mark on the base, flat plates with curved rim, hand-painted with polychrome Asian floral decoration, age-appropriate condition, with firing defects and color abrasion, 3 x 24.5 cm (HxD)
The plates date from the so-called "Marcolini Period" of the Meissen Porcelain Manufactory, named after Camillo Marcolini, the manufactory's long-time director. During this period, increased emphasis was placed on artistically sophisticated paintings, including both classical floral motifs and exotic decorations.
