Fabric, printed, framed behind glass. A rare official commemorative handkerchief from the XI. Summer Olympic Games in Berlin 1936. The white cloth is printed with the Olympic rings in the four corners. A wide border displays the flags of all participating nations, prominently including the flag of National Socialist Germany. The handkerchief has been framed behind glass for preservation, very good age-appropriate condition, handkerchief approx. 39 x 39 cm, frame 51 x 41 cm (HxW).
The 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin were a major propaganda event for the NS regime. Official souvenirs like this handkerchief were part of the staging and were intended to convey the image of a cosmopolitan and modern Germany. Today, they are important historical documents of this politically instrumentalized sporting event.
