Official Commemorative Medal of the 1964 Tokyo Olympics in Original Case
Copper, gold-plated, in original case with certificate. A large and heavy official commemorative medal, issued by the Japan Athletic Promotion Foundation on the occasion of the XVIII Olympic Games in Tokyo 1964. The obverse depicts a torch relay scene, modeled after an ancient Greek vase painting (c. 400 B.C.) from the Louvre. The reverse shows a view of the National Stadium at the Sendagaya Gate with the Olympic flame and the Olympic rings. The medal is housed in its original white-covered case featuring the Tokyo 1964 logo and is accompanied by the original bilingual certificate, which details the manufacturer (Mitsui Mining & Smelting Co.) and the design, very good age-appropriate condition, the case with slight signs of wear, D. 60 mm, H. 4 mm, W. 84.2 g.
