Soviet High-Altitude Flight Helmet GSH-6A for MiG Pilots, Cold War
Fiberglass-reinforced plastic, aluminum, glass. An original Soviet pressure helmet (GSH-6A) as used by pilots of MiG fighter aircraft (e.g. MiG-21, MiG-23, MiG-25) during high-altitude missions. The helmet consists of a cream-white outer shell and features a large, airtight, electrically heated visor to prevent fogging. A secondary internal sun visor can be lowered as needed. Complete with original communication and oxygen equipment, including characteristic hoses, connectors, and green fabric neck seal. Good age-appropriate condition with only minor signs of use and storage, 31 × 28 cm (H×D).
Inspection recommended. The GSH-6 (Germoshelm-6) was a high-altitude pressure helmet introduced in the Soviet Union in the late 1960s. It completely isolated the pilot’s head from the hostile environment at extreme altitudes (up to 40 km) and also served as an integrated oxygen mask. Due to its futuristic, space-helmet-like appearance, it has become an iconic collector’s piece from the era of the Cold War and aviation history.
