Prussian M1895 Pickelhaube for an Infantry Sergeant Major (Feldwebel)
Leather, brass, silk reps. An original Pickelhaube for a Feldwebel of the Prussian line infantry, Model 1895. The blackened leather helmet body is fitted with all brass hardware. On the front is the large line infantry eagle with the bandeau "MIT GOTT FUER KOENIG UND VATERLAND" (With God for King and Fatherland). A special feature is the original officer's cockades on the sides (Prussian black-white-black and the Reich's cockade in black-white-red), as was regulation for a Feldwebel. The interior lining is made of light-colored silk reps, age-appropriate worn original condition. The helmet body shows lacquer damage and slight deformations; the clasp of the chinscales is missing, 23 x 20 x 23 cm (HxWxD).
360-degree photo on our website. The Feldwebel, as the highest-ranking non-commissioned officer, was the company's "first sergeant" and its backbone. As a so-called "Unteroffizier mit Portepee" (NCO with sword knot), he enjoyed a special status that was also reflected in his uniform. He had to privately purchase his own equipment, which resulted in higher-quality items. The officer's cockades on an enlisted man's helmet were the visible sign of this elevated rank.
