Kalathos-shaped Cup, Corps Pomerania Greifswald, circa 1860
White glazed porcelain, cylindrical body with strongly flared rim. Finely executed miniature painting of the full coat of arms of Corps Pomerania on the corpus. The border of the shield bears three mottos or slogans of the Corps: “Blau wie der Aether ist unser Panier, fest wie die Eiche im Sturme stehen wir!” (“Blue like the aether is our banner, firm like the oak we stand in the storm!”) “Ubi patria – ibi bene!” (“Where the fatherland is – there is well-being!”) “Unseren Bund trennt nur der Tod!” (“Only death shall part our bond!”) The coat of arms is set upon an ermine cloak with crossed dueling swords (Glockenschläger), topped with a barred helmet, laurel coronet, and three plumes in the Corps colors of Pomerania. Gilding on base, rim, and rear handle. No saucer. Condition: Very good, slight wear to gilding in a few areas. H. 9.4 cm.
